Q:  Why do I get a little box with a red "X" in place of some images on your website?

A: This website uses "applets" to enhance the experience.  Applets are "mini-applications" that allow for moving text, photo albums, etc...  If you are unable to view some of the elements on the web pages of this site, click here to download Microsoft Virtual Machine for Internet Explorer.  If you are using Netscape Navigator, click here for more information.  A simple check to see if you are using Microsoft Virtual Machine follows:

How to Check If You Have the Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) for Internet Explorer

To determine if you have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer:

If you are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows Me

1.          On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.

2.          Type: command

3.          At the command prompt, type: jview
If a message displays information about Java, you have the VM installed on your computer.
If a message displays Bad command or file name, you do not have the VM installed on your computer.

If you are running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

1.          On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.

2.          Type: cmd

If a message displays 'Jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file, you do not have the VM installed on your computer.

Q:  Why do some elements of your site overlap one another?

A: Unfortunately, the web hosting service, due to its ease of use, has limitations.  One is that it uses a "fixed point" placement code to place elements on your screen.  Since some of us view at different resolutions, using different monitors, the site may look different.  In order to ensure the best quality viewing, set your browser and your computer to "medium" or 12pt font.  More on this subject follows below.

The problem and solution are most likely related to display settings for your computer, or your browser's font preferences.  Here's how to adjust both of them:

Set your browser to display Medium (12 pt.) fonts:

*For Netscape 4 users:

1.  Click the 'Edit' menu and choose 'Preferences'. (A dialog box should appear).

2.  From the 'Appearance' menu on the left, choose 'Fonts'.

3.  Change your fonts back to the following, default settings:

For the encoding:  'Western'

Variable Width Font: 'Times New Roman'' Size: 12

Fixed Width Font:  'Courier New'  Size: 10

*For IE 4 users:

1.  From the 'View' menu, choose 'Fonts' and then check 'Medium'.

*For IE 5 users:

1. From the 'View' menu, choose 'Text Sizes', and then select 'Medium'.

Set your computer to display small fonts:

1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen. (A menu should appear.)

2. Move the mouse over Settings. (A sub-menu should appear.)

3. Click Control Panel. (The Control Panel window should appear.)

4. Double-click Display. (The Display Properties dialog box should appear.)

5. Click the Settings tab to bring it to the front.

6. From the Font Size drop-down box, choose Small Fonts.

Note:  You may need to restart your computer before the new font size will go into effect.
